In the mid-80’s, Faema, a leader in commercial espresso machine manufacturing, experimented with a line of consumer-friendly espresso machines. The “Family” lineup was short-lived, but designed with the same quality and character as their iconic counter parts.

Fast-forward 40 years, to a landscape of plastic and planned obsolescence, Mugshot NYC has revived the Family story— a story about timeless design, products designed with conscience, serviceability, and the avoidance of landfills. This story is about products designed to endure one family generation to the next.

Essentially, think of Ferrari levels of performance but built into the approachable and unassuming form of a Fiat. MUGSHOT has redesigned the Faema Family with modern technology to create a stunning package (a small one) that gives modern machines a run for their money.

During this project, many parts were not available to buy and had to be re-manufactured to factory spec.

    a bottomless PF styled after Faema’s legendary E61 and created to work in harmony with the proportions of the machine

  • Faema Family PID Grill

    3D-Printed Trim

    a special grill was designed to house the PID controller and replace the old trim with strong and durable ASA printed material

  • Faema Family PID Controller Auber

    PID Temperature Control

    the machine is now controlled digitally with an Auber PID controller and RTD sensor, resolving the inaccuracy of mechanical thermostats

  • Faema Family Powder Coat

    Powder-Coated Aluminum Case

    both the external case and interior component plate were strip and powder-coated with a layer of marine-grade primer beneath

  • LED Switch & Switch Covers

    the vintage switches were replaced with LED and the graphics were recreated using custom-cut vinyl

  • Water distribution puck screen

    Redesigned Group Components

    The shower head was redesigned to fit an IMS screen and manufactured using a surgical-grade thermoplastic which is temperature stable and repels coffee oils

  • 300 mL brass boiler & steam functionality

  • 1200 watt heating element (5 min start-up)

  • Auber Instruments P.I.D temperature controller

  • Adjustable over-pressure valve (OPV) 6-9bar

  • Calibrated water dispersion puck with IMS competition shower screen (MSNYC Designed)

Three (3) color options: Gloss White, Almond White, Gloss Black

  • The Family is a one-of-a-kind vintage espresso machine built with commercial quality components and features in a compact foot-print. Mugshot has redesigned the platform to optimize its performance and temperature stability.

    • Powder-coated aluminum case with U.S marine-grade primer

    • Custom nickel-plated name badge with hard enamel

    • Integrated PID Controller with RTD sensor to digitally control boiler temperature.

    • 3DP trays, covers, and trim (as needed)

    • Fabricated water intake coil, preheats incoming water to contribute to temperature stabilization

    • Complete hardware replacement with 304 Stainless

    • Wiring harness redone using high-temp silicone wire

    • New electrical components (such as pump, switches, custom switch covers)

    • New water lines with food-grade black silicone
